School Initiatives

Formation of Road Safety Club

The road safety club was inaugurated in Jan 2010/

The primary aim of this club is to conduct various activities in road safety across different schools with the following purposes:

Teach the students and make them follow the rules of the road, thereby making them better citizens of tomorrow.

Set up meeting with students across school students and ensure they are up to date with the traffic rules and ensure their safety as well as that of other road users.

Nominate teaches as patrons for the school safety activities and to chalk out the plan and follow it for the entire year.

No. of Schools Enrolled As Club Members

In the first year 2010 – 2011, there were 17 schools that were part of the programme and they got together in conducted many programs to ensure the safety of the students and also to create an awareness in the field for other students.

In the second year 2011 – 2012, there was an additional 30 schools that joined the club and the year after, it went to a total of 140 and in 2013 – 2014, which is the current year, we have seen the number to go up to 184. To top this, the 42 KV schools of Delhi are also joining the club. All government, public, aided, private, KV schools are all open to enroll for the Road Safety Club that has been formed.

Programme Charter

The schools will be directly involved. The students will be taken to parks where training on traffic rules will be given. The website of the road safety club will be updated. The schedule for young, middle and senior students will be drawn up.  Both students and teachers are sent for workshops and training.  Similar programs are arranged for the bus drivers in the school. There are competitions across schools in the traffic and safety rules. Fairs are conducted. For best schools and students awards are given. The best of the students are trained on extra drills and are appointed as road safety patrol officers and they are called for help closer to the school location and also in helping the younger children get in and off the school bus and also in other traffic movement help during the morning assembly as well as the school leaving time.
